Computer Animation


What do I do?

Computer Animators create moving images for movies, TV shows, video games and other projects. They create many animations from toys to dinosaurs and mythical lands.  They use their skills to create illusions of movements. They make a wide range of projects from simple changes to cartoons or graphics.

What I really do..

They draw characters and manipulate them with their software (CGI). They use computer softwares to draw and or animate and add special effects  They spend long hours creating animations. They can work with Television, and film, but now they mostly work on web development of some sort.


This field is very competitive so it’s very important to market your abilities. Here are some of the skills you will need to be a computer animator:

  • Proficiency in the leading animation software
  • Wield cutting-edge digital animation techniques, such as character rigging, 3D modeling and texture development, etc to make their on-screen creations come to life.
  • Know anatomy and understand how and why things move to make it look more realistic.
  • Teamwork skills
  • Working overtime and pull all-nighters
  • Etc

Qualifications and Training


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer animation, multimedia design, fine arts, graphic design or a related field of study.
  • Demo Reel and portfolio


B.S. Computer Animation

  • Degree Level: Bachelor
  • Accredited School: Yes

AAS – Graphic Design: Animation & Motion Graphic

  • Degree Level: Associate
  • Accredited School: Yes

AAS – IT: Programming and Software Development

  • Degree Level: Associate
  • Accredited School: Yes

Job Outlook

8% job growth for computer animators from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the 7% average for all occupations.

Possibility of a career choice for me?

If all else goes wrong sure why not.

  1. I like to animate things and i would be up for the challenge of deadlines and such.
  2. I think it would be fun bringing my OCs to life, plus I would get to be my own boss.
  3. I know how to work maya, and how to render things, I’m a okay artist and it would be something I’m interested in.
